When someone says Samsung, we automatically think of smartphones, computer monitors, TVs, laptops or any other type of electronics. But in fact these are the product of only one Samsung division - Samsung Electronics, which is now the largest electronics company in the world. The Samsung Group itself includes one of the world's largest shipbuilding companies, Samsung Heavy Industries, and a leading global construction company, Samsung Engineering & Construction. Samsung Group is the largest company in South Korea and the world's largest conglomerate by revenue, which itself controls several major companies worldwide.

Samsung – the pride of South Korea

In South Korea, Samsung Group is regarded as the pride of the nation. Large numbers of South Korea's brightest students are lured to work for this prestigious company. In fact, approximately 25% of Samsung employees have a Ph.D or equivalent. Samsung Group is even partnered with Sungkyunkwan University, a private research university. Samsung Group and its products are vital to the South Korean economy, with many other local businesses relying on their partnership and trade. Samsung Group's products account for 20% of South Korea's total exports, while its revenues are comparable to the GDP of some countries. For example, in 2006, Samsung Group ranked 34th among world economies, placing it above the economy of Argentina.

The division of Samsung Electronics was founded in 1969, and in 1970 it started to produce black-and-white televisions. At present, the company employs approximately 138,000 employees in 124 offices in 56 countries across the world. Whether televisions, smartphones, digital cameras, LCD monitors, or other computer accessories, Samsung products have become a part of our lives, helping us connect with the outside world.
