How to Choose an Electric Kettle

An electric kettle is a great kitchen tool that can help save a lot of time. It can quickly boil water for tea or coffee and also help speed up your cooking. How do you choose the right kettle that will last for a long time without breaking?

Several Tips for Choosing a Kettle

  1. In order to select the correct size, you must think about how much water you will boil in the kettle and how often.
  2. If you want your kettle to last, you must purchase a quality one and take good care of it.
  3. You have to look at it on your counter every day, so it is important to take the aesthetic design into acccount.
  4. Modern kettles have many features that make them easy to operate.

Basic parameters for choosing a kettle

Material

This will specify the appearance of the kettle and some of its properties. Currently, plastic, stainless steel, glass and even ceramic kettles are produced.

Volume

This is the most important factor when choosing. It depends mainly on the number of household members and on the number of regular guests. This correlates to the number of cups of water usually boiled. Keep in mind that you can make about 4 to 5 cups of tea or coffee from one litre of water. A kettle with a capacity of about 1L is ideal for a smaller household (1 to 2 people), and a capacity of at least 1.5L is better for families of  3 people or someone who has numerous guests.

Filter type

A filter will catch calcium deposits, limescale and dirt when pouring boiled water. You should always make sure you clean the removable filter.

Power consumption

The higher the kettle's power consumption, the faster the water is heated, and the more energy the kettle consumes. Typically, the power consumption ranges from 600W to 3,000W, but in order to boil water pretty quickly, the power consumption should be at least 2,000W.

Heating element

The heating element heats the water. With hidden heating elements (they are built into the bottom of the kettle), the water will not settle, but heating the water takes more time than with a visible heating element, which must be regularly cleaned.

Other functions

A 360-degree rotary base makes it very easy to handle the kettle (it can be built on the base anyway). Some kettles have an Anti-Drip system, which is designed to make the water easier to drain without spilling. A watermark (measuring gauge), often double-sided, allows you to easily see how much water is in the kettle.

safety function switches the kettle off automatically once the water reaches the desired temperature.

A fixed filter removes calcareous deposits and limescale. It also removes dirt when pouring boiled water. Removable options are easier to clean. Cleaning the kettle will help eliminate calcareous deposits.

Quality manufacturing is typical with stainless steel kettles. Stainless steel is stable even at extreme temperatures. It last for a long time and is easy to maintain. There are a variety of colours, volumes, and features available today. One very practical feature prevents the lid from opening when the kettle is overturned or tilted.
