Unlike extension cables, Adapters increase the reach of the cables and allow the transfer of information between different types of connections. A basic passive adapter is sufficient to convert the signal between the different analogue or digital interfaces. But if you want to convert a digital signal to an analogue, you will need a DAC converter. An ADC (analogue to digital) converter performs the opposite.
