There is no key to the safe and the only way to change the batteries is from the inside, and when you don't use the safe, sooner or later the batteries will die and you will never get into it again. We bought 2, one went after 3 years (had to have them drilled to get to its contents), the other went after 5 years. The worst part is that the safe does not alert you to low batteries, and one day it simply stops responding.
