The unit itself has been tested for performance during continuous operation (24/7) in the home or in small business NAS systems with one to five positions (for larger NAS systems is better to use enterprise drives). The main goal is to increase the MTBF statistics (mean time between failures) by up to 35%. The MTBF value indicates the median time in hours during which the equipment is expected to work flawlessly.

Thanks to the NASware 3.0 firmware, the WD Red hard drive now supports small NAS systems with 1 to 8 positions and offers greater compatibility and reliability. The WD Red series is designed for new generation NAS systems, and its total capacity equals 48TB in a system with 8 positions.
