What to focus on when buying a punch bag
- Weight - ranges between 20 and 80 kg. Your punch bag should be about half as heavy as you are.
- Length - a short punch bag is sufficient for boxing training and exercise. If you want to practice your kicks, you need a longer bag (almost down to the ground).
Speed bags
Speed bags are designed to train quick strikes and lunges and improve your hand-eye coordination. Speed bags are essentially small punch bags anchored at the top to a rebound platform.
Don’t forget your gloves or hand wraps
If you are buying a punch bag, it is strongly recommended that you also buy a pair of boxing gloves or hand wraps at least. Beginners should start with classic boxing gloves, as they provide better wrist protection. If you are planning to train primarily with a punch bag, choose harder bag gloves (8 oz or lighter). Using softer sparring gloves for punch bag training without strapping down your wrists beforehand may lead to an injury.
