With sequential read speeds of up to 7450MB/s and write speeds of up to 6900MB/s, the 990 PRO gets close to the maximum capabilities of the PCIe 4.0 interface itself. For the 4TB version, random read speeds reach up to 1600000 IOPS and random write speeds up to 1550000 IOPS, helping to accelerate the loading of applications, games and other demanding tasks.

The design of the Samsung 990 PRO delivers up to 50% better performance-per-watt efficiency compared to the previous generation, so it can take full advantage of PCIe 4.0 with more efficient power management. The lower power requirements also help to reduce the amount of heat generated during intensive use.
Intelligent operating temperature control
A sophisticated thermal management system ensures stable performance under heavy loads. The nickel-coated Samsung controller, along with a heat spreader, helps dissipate heat, and the Dynamic Thermal Guard technology continuously monitors the SSD's operating temperature. If necessary, it optimises performance to keep the drive within a safe temperature range for long-term stable operation.

The Samsung 990 PRO offers high random performance, which is especially noticeable when loading large amounts of game data. Compared to the previous generation 980 PRO, it delivers a significant increase in random performance and helps to reduce waiting times when loading game worlds and other data. It also supports Microsoft DirectStorage technology, which lets compatible PC games make more efficient use of the high speed of an NVMe SSD and accelerate data transfer to the system.
