Raspberry Pi 4 Model B - 3GB RAM

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B - 3GB RAM single-board mini computer serves as a compact computer system for learning to code, developing your own applications, or as a fully-fledged replacement for a standard desktop PC. This version brings increased computing and graphics performance compared to previous generations of the platform. To boot the system, you must install a compatible operating system on a micro SD card and provide a stable power supply via the integrated USB-C connector. The design maintains the same footprint as older versions of the brand's single-board computers, while introducing modernised connectors for peripheral devices. The board functions as a low-power personal computer.

Key features of the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B - 3GB RAM mini computer

  • Quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 processor running at 1.5GHz
  • Up to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM
  • VideoCore VI chip decodes H.265 video in 4K resolution
  • Two microHDMI ports for connecting two monitors simultaneously
  • Gigabit Ethernet provides a wired connection speed of 1000Mbit/s
  • Wireless interface includes dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0

Powerful ARM Cortex-A72 processor

At the heart of the device is a 1.5GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM2711 processor with an ARM Cortex-A72 architecture. The modern 28nm technology achieves higher performance for the processor, multimedia, and I/O operations. The integrated 64-bit SoC chip handles demanding computational tasks in real time. The ARM v8 architecture ensures full compatibility with modern operating systems and smooth operation of all running applications without excessive power consumption.

Stable and smooth connection

Users can choose the RAM capacity based on their specific use case. Separate hardware variants are available with 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB of RAM. The complete switch to fast LPDDR4 memory significantly increases data transfer speeds when processing tasks. The amount of installed memory directly affects overall multitasking capability, operating system responsiveness, and the smoothness of working with multiple programs running simultaneously.

Graphics output with 4K resolution support

The VideoCore VI graphics core provides hardware decoding for HEVC/H.265 video format. The device smoothly plays 4Kp60 video on a single connected monitor. Two integrated version 2.0 microHDMI ports support connecting two monitors to a single board at the same time. It is not possible to set 4Kp60 resolution on both monitors simultaneously. The graphics use the OpenGL ES 3.0 standard for rendering 3D scenes.

Modern connectivity

The board includes two USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfers and two USB 2.0 ports for connecting common peripherals. An integrated dual-band Wi-Fi, operating on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, handles wireless network connections. There is also Bluetooth version 5.0 with low energy consumption (BLE standard) and a classic Gigabit Ethernet with a speed of 1000Mbit/s. The physical interface is complemented by a standard 40-pin GPIO header for development projects.

Specific power requirements

The board is powered via a USB-C interface, which has replaced the previous micro USB connector. The device requires a stable power supply with a voltage of 5V and a current of at least 3A. Provided the total power draw of the connected USB peripherals does not exceed 500mA, a 2.5A power supply can also be used. Insufficient power or using a weaker supply can lead to data loss and damage to the installed micro SD card.

Software updates

Booting the system requires installation on a micro SD card, for which a slot without a pop-up mechanism is provided. Raspbian remains the official operating system for this platform. Older operating system installations without updates require the installation of updated firmware for all integrated chips to function correctly. The device also supports a wide range of alternative operating systems and distributions for specific applications.
