What should you focus on when choosing a car holder

Type

• Mobile phone holders - small and compact mounts and pads with a special adhesive nano-surface for attaching phones.
• Tablet holders - larger and more robust tablet mounts
• GPS holders - special mounts and adhesive discs for GPS devices.

Versatility

• Universal - perfect if you have multiple phones or tablets or share your car with another driver. Universal holders cannot hold everything under the sun, however, so make sure to pre-check the compatibility with your devices before buying one.
• Specialised - buying a specialised mount makes your choice easier and ensures the mount will be fully compatible with your mobile phone or tablet model.

Power supply

• Active - holders with active power supply can recharge mounted devices. They also include a charger or charger cable for the car's cigarette lighter receptacle.
• Passive - supplied without any recharge accessory. Before you buy, make sure they do not block the charging connector of your device.
• Car chargers - used to recharge electronic devices through the cigarette lighter receptacle. They may have additional features, such as saving your position to let you locate your parked vehicle via a smartphone, or car battery voltage monitoring.

Mounting a holder

• On the windscreen - suction cups hold fast, but they also partially blocks your view from the vehicle.
• On the dashboard - dashboard holders use specialised suction cups or combine it with a self-adhesive mat, which lends the dashboard surface a smother texture resembling a windshield.
• Into air vents - a clever solution for mounting holders that would keep your phone or tablet always at hand. However, not all cars have air vents compatible with car holders.
• On a headrest - common for mounting tablets. This is a good solution particularly if you have children, since you can sweeten the long journey by letting them watch their favourite show or movie.

Holder attachment mechanism for the device

• Brackets - extremely reliable and stable; trays where the phone is inserted directly from the front are handier because insertion from the top can be tricky.
• Magnet - very simple and practical; can be remarkably reliable if the magnet is powerful enough .
• Nano-suction - difficult to maintain: if the suction surface gets dirty, your phone or tablet may simply fall off.
