Acerola (Malpighia emarginata)
Also known as the "Barbados cherry," it is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C, containing up to 100 times more of the vitamin than oranges or lemons. In addition to vitamin C, Acerola also contains provitamin A, certain B vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc and iron. Acerola is also a source of a number of phytonutrients beneficial to health, including carotenoids, phenols, flavonoids and anthocyanins.
