TP-Link EAP673-Extender, Omada

The TP-Link EAP673 Omada extender Wi-Fi access point expands and strengthens your wireless network within the Omada SDN ecosystem. This dual-band device operates on the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard and offers a combined transfer speed of up to 5378Mbps, split between the 2.4GHz (574Mbps) and 5GHz (4804Mbps) bands. Its design allows it to plug directly into an electrical socket, eliminating the need for external adaptors and simplifying deployment. OFDMA technology and four external antennas support efficient data transfer and coverage of an area up to 140m². It functions as an extender for existing Omada networks or as a standalone AX5400 Wi-Fi access point when connected with an Ethernet cable.

Key features of the TP-Link EAP673 Omada extender Wi-Fi access point

  • Supports modern WPA3, WPA2, and WPA2-Enterprise encryption protocols and offers a Guest Zone function to separate the network
  • Four high-gain external antennas cover an area of up to 140m² and reduce dead spots
  • Creates a unified network with seamless roaming between access points within the Omada ecosystem
  • Powered directly from a standard electrical socket (100–240V)
  • Functions as an extender in an Omada network or as a standalone access point when connected via cable
  • Supports over 250 client devices connected simultaneously
  • Can be configured and monitored via the cloud, web interface, or mobile app

Wi-Fi 6 and network performance

The access point uses the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard for highly efficient dual-band operation. It reaches speeds of 4804Mbps on the 5GHz band and 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. These parameters are suitable for data-intensive activities like 4K/8K content streaming or online gaming. OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies work together to optimise data transfer when a large number of clients are connected, reducing latency and increasing overall network throughput. The device serves over 250 concurrently connected devices, meeting the demands of busy households and small office environments.

Coverage and mesh technology

To eliminate dead zones and ensure a stable signal, the device includes four high-gain external antennas (2× 3dBi for the 2.4GHz band and 4× 5dBi for the 5GHz band). This configuration covers an area of up to 140m². Support for Omada Mesh technology links multiple units into a single unified network, where clients can move around seamlessly without connection dropouts thanks to the roaming function. This architecture is ideal for larger spaces, such as multi-storey houses or offices with complex layouts, and maintains consistent performance throughout the entire coverage area.

Security and management

Modern WPA3, WPA2, and WPA2-Enterprise encryption protocols protect the wireless network. For increased security, it offers a function that separates the guest network from the internal network, and Rogue AP detection to identify unauthorised access points. Management is centralised through the Omada SDN platform, which integrates network devices into a single interface. You can configure and monitor the system remotely via the cloud, locally via a web interface, or conveniently through the Omada mobile app. The system simplifies management even in extensive networks with multiple access points.

Wi-Fi access point connectivity

The device offers two operating modes for flexible deployment. In extender mode, it connects wirelessly to existing Omada access points to expand their range. Alternatively, you can use it in access point mode. Connecting a cable to the Gigabit Ethernet port allows the unit to create a new, fully-featured Wi-Fi point with AX5400 standard speeds. The main advantage is that it plugs directly into a standard electrical socket (100–240V), which eliminates the need for an external power adaptor or PoE switch and simplifies finding a suitable location.
