The voice recorder's microphone preamps are equipped with 48-volt phantom power. The Tascam DR-40X also offers a Level Align function that smoothes out volume jumps during playback. For quick review, the Tascam voice recorder has a built-in speaker. The voice recorder has an all-new dictation mode that allows you to jump back and forth in pre-determined increments during playback. This new mode of the Tascam DR-40X can be combined with speed control and a special dictation EQ, which you will appreciate, for example, when transcribing meeting minutes. In addition, you will be able to select a specific time interval and use it to replace part of an existing recording.
