Flexible storage configuration
The base chassis includes 12 bays for 3.5" SATA HDDs or 2.5" SATA SSDs with hot-swap support. You can further expand the capacity by connecting up to two RX1225RP expansion units via the dedicated Mini-SAS HD ports, for a total of 36 bays. The device supports drives up to 24TB, increasing the maximum capacity to 288TB in the basic configuration. Users can configure RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, or the specific RAID F1 arrays.
Expansion options and network connectivity
The device offers two RJ-45 10GbE LAN ports and one LAN port dedicated to out-of-band management. Other interfaces include two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for connecting external devices. Two PCIe expansion slots enable the installation of additional network cards or M.2 NVMe SSD cache cards. This lets you increase network throughput to 25GbE or speed up the array's response time.
DSM operating system and virtualisation
The entire system is managed by the proven DiskStation Manager operating system, which uses the internal Btrfs file system. This system supports advanced features such as snapshots of shared folders and LUNs for protection against unauthorised interference. The integrated Virtual Machine Manager provides the resources to run virtual machines and manage up to 12 Virtual DSM instances directly on this network storage.
Backup and private cloud
The NAS acts as a comprehensive platform for backing up company data, supporting Apple Time Machine, public cloud backups, and full system backups. The Synology Drive private cloud solution supports real-time collaboration and file access from various platforms. Secure data sharing is made easier by integration with Windows ACL and authentication using the NFS Kerberos protocol.
Professional surveillance system
The Surveillance Station service transforms this storage into a monitoring centre with support for up to 90 IP cameras simultaneously, depending on the resolution and codec used. The system handles image processing in 1080p, 5M, and 4K resolutions with H.264 or H.265 encoding. Uninterrupted monitoring is ensured by a redundant 550W power supply, which keeps the device running in case one power branch fails.
