Internal Power Supply
Some dashcams are equipped with an internal power source that allows them to function even after being disconnected from the vehicle's main power supply. This source is typically a small battery or a so-called supercapacitor. Its primary task is to provide the camera with enough time to safely save the last video recording after the engine is turned off, thereby preventing file corruption. This source is also essential for the parking mode function, where the camera monitors the surroundings of the parked car and automatically starts recording if motion or impact is detected. While a battery usually offers longer endurance for parking mode, a supercapacitor better withstands extreme temperatures and has a longer overall lifespan.
