Anamorphic shot

An anamorphic shot is a shot captured with an anamorphic lens, which compresses the image horizontally to fit a wider field of view onto the sensor. During post-production, the image is stretched back to its original aspect ratio, resulting in a widescreen format, such as 2.39:1. Anamorphic images are characterized by elongated reflections from light sources and slightly oval out-of-focus areas. Unlike cropping a standard shot to a widescreen format, this method makes more efficient use of the sensor and preserves higher resolution. In action cameras, anamorphic lenses are used as attachments or interchangeable lenses. The image must be correctly stretched during post-production.
