Blind spots

Basic equipment for understanding Czech society, crisis of democracy and functioning of contemporary politics

On poverty, education, populism and other challenges of Czech society.
Political debates in the Czech Republic are often reduced to addressing several politicians and their statements, value introspection, and cultural wars of liberals and conservatives. However, the issues that affect the quality of life in the Czech Republic and thus trust in democracy seem to remain in our blind spots. Especially at a time when political campaigns are based on emotions rather than facts, misinformation is spreading in the media and society is addressing the tabloid cases of its representatives instead of problems such as the future of work or the form of education.
Sociolog Daniel Prokop v knize Slepé skvrny pohlíží na problémy a výzvy současného Česka i světa. Unresolved poverty and distraint, unequal education and reduced life chances, the rise of populism and inability to respond to it, myths about public opinion overshadowing reality - all this is related to the declining confidence of Czechs in democracy and its viability in an increasingly complex reality.

Napsali o knize Slepé skvrny

"Blind spots can also serve as a practical guide to the changes our society needs to get out of the current neurotic situation. At the moment we are most reminiscent of the legendary ostrich who hid his head in the sand and hopes that the other world will not see him and he will survive without any unpleasant questions when it overcomes. Daniel Prokop, together with a description of each problem, tries to outline possible solutions. He does not hide himself as an expert without opinion, but shows how the activity of a public intellectual may look today. "
