at first I didn't understand why the umbrella is tilted against the fence (it tilts forward to the open side in front of you, not behind you), but then I realized that it can be used to open the fence and also to shield you from the rain from the front. Cool stuff. best deal, I used it right away this weekend in the pouring rain for two and it's not technically camping
