I was already impressed by the balanced sound when I first listened to it. The highs are pleasantly clear, the mids are well-read, and the bass has power and depth without overpowering the rest. JBL has managed to fine-tune the headphones to suit most genres - from podcasts and acoustics to electronica and orchestral soundtracks.
A major plus is the lossless connection via USB-C DAC - when listening from a computer or mobile phone I could enjoy really clear and detailed sound without compression. In combination with Bluetooth LDAC, you also get a great result without a cable.
I was very positively surprised by the comfort. The earcups are soft, made of memory foam, and fit perfectly around the ears. Even after several hours of listening, I didn't feel pressure or fatigue, which doesn't happen often with other headphones. I hardly noticed them at work or on walks - I just enjoyed the music and the peace
The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature is one of the best I've ever tested. In the office it filtered out noise, in public transport it coped with monotonous noise. All without the feeling of "closed ears" that still happens with some competitors.
But thanks to Ambient Aware, I could sense my surroundings when I needed to - for example, when crossing the road or in the store. I then use TalkThru mode to have a quick conversation without having to take the headset off my head. Practical and thoughtful.
An interesting feature is the JBL Spatial Sound 360 with head-tracking. It works great when watching movies - the sound adapts to your head movements and feels natural. Combined with quality bass, it's an immersive experience, especially if you really want to enjoy a movie or series.
I have used the headset both indoors and outdoors, even in the wind - and the other party has never complained. Microphones with beamforming do an excellent job. The VoiceAware feature, which allows you to hear a little bit of yourself, feels natural and helps especially during longer calls.
The battery life is really above standard - with ANC I got to about 28-30 hours, without it easily over 45 hours. I also appreciate the fast charging - 10 minutes on the charger and you have another 5 hours of listening. That's handy.
The JBL Headphones app allowed me to customize the headphones in detail - from gesture controls to sound profile. I was very impressed with the Personi-Fi feature, which after a short test adjusts the sound to your hearing - and you can actually hear the difference.
