Despite the fact that my originally ordered Terra Nostra, which is the same keyboard only without battery, was already damaged in the package (wrongly screwed together, the top and bottom part was split) I decided to order Terra Nova. The keyboard looked great. Great sound, comfortable typing, double-shot PBT keycaps, solid and heavy-duty construction, a wealth of accessories in the package, and VIAL! Absolutely brilliant. When I turned it on, I was greeted by the best backlighting I've ever seen. I immediately wanted to play with the famous VIAL and plugged in the keyboard. And there began all my problems described in the cons of this keyboard. Support was very helpful, they responded briskly, quickly and persistently. But more and more I felt that they were trying to tell me untruths. When compiling the VIAL FW it is possible to limit the maximum value of the illumination that can be set in VIAL or with a keyboard shortcut. The maximum value is 255, but you can limit the maximum brightness to 175 in FW to limit the HW options. You can do this to extend the life of the LEDs, to keep them well cooled, or on a whim. And I feel like that's what Dark Project is doing, even though support says it's not. The brightness is so limited that with certain colour settings and ambient conditions, having the backlight on is rather detrimental. I would understand if I could get a reasonable explanation as to why this is happening. However, the sentence "Unfortunately, this is how it should be, as we were informed. And they flatly refuse to increase the backlight brightness now. " has convinced me that this keyboard is just another great piece of HW that killed a bad SW.

I've been dealing with support for about a week. They even sent me a FW that isn't even on the web yet, they told me that the backlight is not limited in the FW and that it is at max. After sending a video comparing the just unpacked keyboard and the keyboard after the FW flash, they admitted that there is indeed a difference, but that the FW team refused to do anything about it at the moment and that maybe someday.
Either you accept losing the VIAL, or you accept a crappy RGB backlight

When I bought a mechanical keyboard, quiet sound was my top priority - and in that respect, this keyboard absolutely lives up to expectations. Hardware processing is excellent, I have no reservations about it. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for software. During the first seven months of use, there was the occasional double-click, which was nothing major and could be dealt with. Gradually, however, the problem worsened - double-click started to appear on seven keys, approximately every third press. The situation was solved by a firmware update according to the instructions on the manufacturer's website. However, after the update, the maximum backlight brightness was reduced to about half of the original value. The white color I had set now looks more like a pale shade of blue-green. You can get around it by changing the colour, but it's still annoying. According to information from the Internet, the manufacturer took this step to extend the life of LEDs, which were the cause of many complaints. I'll keep the keyboard, but at this price I wouldn't expect the compromises I had to make.
