why all the pads on the market vent air can't be explained to me. yes, "on paper" it is more efficient to remove heat than to blow it out, and it would cool a passive building better. but... the laptop for which the pad is supposed to be is usually not a passive object - and 99% of them suck air from underneath, which when heated is vented out the sides or back.
In practice, their cooling effect is therefore rather counterproductive.
Fortunately, with a little skill, it can be fixed; you have to open the pad by releasing the mesh and turning the fans. The larger fans turn easily, for the smaller ones you'll need a drill and a 4.5-5mm drill bit (I only had 4.2 at home and it wasn't close enough) to enlarge the holes they thread onto from the other side.
