Relatively heavy, probably not aluminum. It works great with Dell and HP NTBs, unfortunately not with Lenovo (NTBs do not turn on and need to hardreset, but with Lenovo I had a ploblem with about all Chinese docks and it worked only with "quality" Targus 182).
