You don't need an equalizer for the music and it sounds just fine. for spoken word with the SHURE SM58 I take away the bass and add a little treble and there is nothing to worry about. I also added their wireless microphone transmitter, which improved the box overall. (I note that the manufacturer specifies a range of only 9 meters for the microphone transmitter, but this is probably the guaranteed minimum, I have tested more - without failure or interference. So for me the whole line-up is very nice.
