This radio is amazing for beginners. Is it the best you can buy as a beginner? Definitely not. Is it ideal for radio amateurs? Finally. Yes, it' s just a child' s toy. Also, when you broadcast on one channel, you are actually broadcasting on three because frequency accuracy is essentially absent. It' s also cheaply made. It is likely that you will break it somehow within two years. On the other hand, it can be repaired relatively easily. And it' s also so freaking cheap that you can actually throw it away and just buy a new one. It' s great if you buy it twice, then you can easily communicate. What is a minus is the legality. It' s not something you buy in Tesco and give to a two year old. Those are pmr radios and they can broadcast it, but technically it' s not legal. It is generally for radio amateurs. So when you broadcast on pmr, nothing will probably happen because the only difference in that broadcast is 1 watt instead of 0.5, which is the legal limit. No one will chase you for that. Rather, if you don' t have papers, stay away from the amateur frequencies or at least try not to disturb anyone. If you broadcast on a quiet frequency and you don' t know anyone, then no one will report you, and nothing will happen. On the other hand, if you jump into the conversation of 10 amateurs, you will naturally confuse someone. For example, for airsoft or somewhere for a brigade so that you can communicate, it' s perfect for that. Or if you want it as a backup for a mountain hike, take it. It works too. Or if you want to go up a hill somewhere and call a friend in the next village, why not. For me, a wonderful introduction to analog radios, and the first step for radio amateurs. Yes, it' s faulty. Yes, it' s a Chinese scumbag. But the price-performance ratio is amazing and you won' t go wrong at all if you buy this. *I am not encouraging anyone to broadcast where they are not. It is up to you. They will fine you
