It works as expected. If you do not check the level of the grit, the grit will remain between the roller and the feeder (it cannot be easily got out of there) and the feeder will then feed poorly. But then you just need to pass some harder paper (like a quarter), the pulp gets out of that place and the feeder feeds again.
