I didn't have very high expectations, but the cover was a pleasant surprise. It fits great, the material has a slightly different texture than the original. It holds very well though, the buttons are slightly stiffer, nothing that would bother me. The biggest difference is probably the colour and the lack of a logo. The original has a dark grey colour that transitions to dark blue, while the Alza version is pure grey. So it doesn't quite fit with the phone, but it's nerve-wracking on the eyes. For a third of the price of the original, it's a luxury.

A cheap case made of cheap material (why use natural leather when we can make a poor quality substitute from petroleum in the name of ecology, right). After a couple of months, it looks terribly worn. I certainly wouldn't call it "patina."
