The QNAP TS-h2490FU NAS rackmount storage device is used for data storage and management in corporate infrastructures. High performance with an AMD EPYC processor
At the heart of the system is an octa-core AMD EPYC 7232P processor, which runs at a base frequency of 3.1GHz and offers 16 threads with a 64-bit x86 architecture. This processor handles demanding data operations and supports the smooth running of several virtual machines simultaneously. The hardware includes an AES-NI encryption engine to protect transmitted information. The motherboard contains a total of 16 RDIMM DDR4 memory slots for ECC RAM modules. The manufacturer has fitted 8 slots with a total capacity of 64GB.
Fast storage
The design offers a total of 24 bays for 2.5" U.2 PCIe NVMe Gen 3 × 4 SSDs for fast access to stored files. The system supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 disk array configurations for basic needs, as well as advanced RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, RAID 50 and RAID 60 modes. Users can also utilise the 24 M.2 NVMe drive bays for SSD cache acceleration. QuTS hero operating system
The device runs on the QuTS hero operating system, which fully utilises the advanced ZFS file system. This system prevents silent data corruption through automatic repair of damaged blocks and offers efficient real-time file compression and deduplication to save capacity. Administrators have integrated tools for creating snapshots and rapid data recovery in the event of a disaster. The operating system supports file sharing across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms via SAMBA, HFS, and CIFS protocols.
Advanced network interface
For a stable connection to the corporate network, there are two 2.5GbE ports and two high-speed 25GbE SFP28 SmartNIC ports. These ports transfer data at high speeds without unnecessary delays when backing up, synchronising, or running virtualisation platforms. The device is fully GDPR-ready. The network card also supports features like Wake-on-LAN (WOL) on the 2.5GbE port and Jumbo Frame technology to optimise the transfer of large data packets.
Wide expansion options
The rear of the chassis offers five free PCIe Generation 4 slots for installing additional expansion cards. Users can add network adapters, storage expansion cards, or additional controllers to these slots to increase throughput. The fifth PCIe Gen 4 × 16 slot comes with a pre-installed 25GbE network adapter for immediate connection to a high-speed infrastructure. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports connect external peripheral devices.
Reliable power supply
The entire system is powered by two redundant 1100W internal power supplies, operating in the 100 to 240V range. These power supplies maintain stable operation even if one fails and support hot-swapping without interrupting services. The typical power consumption of the device in operational mode is 277.64W with all drives installed. Four 60mm fans provide cooling for the internal components. The overall noise level in normal operation is 53.5dB.
