Cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3, is produced in the body after exposure to sunlight. It is a substance that is further converted (hydroxylated) in the body into its active forms, 25-hydroxyvitamin and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin, which are then used by cells throughout the body. The need for vitamin D increases, especially in the winter months when sunlight is limited. Its properties are by no means only related to the condition of bones and teeth, but also to the immune system and mental well-being. In addition to vitamin D3, cod liver oil also naturally contains vitamin A and EPA/DHA, omega-3 fatty acids that are absolutely essential for the functioning of the entire body.
