Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, formerly called vitamin H, today vitamin B7. It is an important part of the enzymes involved in metabolizing fats, carbohydrates and amino acids in the body. As a coenzyme, it interferes with a number of metabolic processes in the human body (for example, fatty acid synthesis or gluconeogenesis). Biotin is also necessary for the proper utilization of the trio of essential branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine).
