It prevents the penetration of dust particles and allergens, which are significantly larger. For example, dust mite allergens measure around 1000nm and the mites themselves can be up to 420000nm. Because of this, the cover reliably traps 99.0% of microorganisms and allergens that would otherwise settle in your mattress.
