Dentistry for non-dental students

The full-colour publication emphasizes the diseases and conditions encountered by physicians in their practice – non-dentist. It was written by an experienced team of authors led by the legend of Czech dentistry, prof. MUDr. J. Mazánek, DrSc. The book is accompanied by rich and illustrative original pictorial documentation.

However, practitioners and specialists who work with various subfields of dentistry will also find lessons in the book. The basics of dentistry and the advances in this medical field are presented in a clear manner to the extent necessary for the performance of curative and preventive care.

The individual chapters introduce the reader to the history and development of the field of dentistry, and briefly describe the basics of the anatomy and physiology of the orthognathic system. In an effort to highlight the interrelationship of diseases of the orofacial system with diseases of the whole organism, the professional issues of individual dental subdisciplines are treated – Conservative dentistry, dental prosthetics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontology and diseases of the oral mucosa, pedostomatology and imaging methods, that dentistry uses to diagnose disease.

The chapter Manifestations of systemic diseases in the oral cavity summarizes symptoms of various diseases that should alert the physician to possible serious diseases in other anatomical areas of the human body during a routine examination of the oral cavity. The chapter on the assessment activities of physicians may be of use to novice practitioners.
