Life cleaning

In Sweden, there is a way to get rid of years of clutter. Swedes call it döstädning: dö means death and städning means cleaning. Although such a name may cause gloom, it is a surprisingly stimulating process of getting rid of unnecessary things and can be done at any time of life. Anyway, it's better to start sooner rather than later, when others have to do it for you. In Life Cleaning, Swedish artist Margareta Magnusson inspires readers to succumb to the charms of minimalism with Scandinavian humour and wisdom. Her radical and entertaining method can help you engage in sensitive conversations about „ what to do with all the accumulated stuff“, thanks to her, the whole process of clearing out can become something uplifting instead of an overwhelming experience.

Margaret suggests, which items can be disposed of easily (unworn clothes, unwanted gifts, unused plates) and which you might want to keep (photos, love letters, several artistic creations of your children).

Margareta manages to inject an element of humour into rummaging through her late husband's tools and her own secret drawer hiding small vices, showing that döstädning doesn't have to be just depressing. Readers will gradually get a glimpse into her life in Sweden, be inspired by the Nordic point of view and find it easier to part with some of their belongings.
