Green winner

Klára Jerneková, Růžena Merunková, Jaroslava Adamová and Alfred Strejček in the lead roles in the dramatization of Julius Zeyer' s epic. The production was created in collaboration with two legends of Czech radio production, Josef Melč and Rudolf Matys, in 1979, a hundred years after Zeyer' s poem was written. Julius Zeyer, one of the most prominent authors of the Lumir generation, often returned to Czech mythology in his work. This is also the case with the Green Winner, which is part of the Vyšehrad cycle. The first composition in the Vyšehrad cycle (1879, published in 1880) is Libuše, which tells the story of Krok' s youngest daughter and her wedding to Přemysl. The second - The Green Winner - is the story of Libuša' s sisters Tety and Kazi. Zeyer uses the story of Bivoj, who defeats a boar and marries Kazi. In this generally known plot, Zeyer involves Auntie' s darling, the Green Winner, who fights the boar first, but dies in the fight. Kazi is able to bring him back to life, but the Green Winner can only return to the world of the living once a year.
