Word 2007

In the first quarter of 2007, Microsoft brought a new version of its office suite, Office 2007, to market. This version is revolutionary in its own way, as it brings a completely new look to program windows with completely different controls. The authors of the program were guided by the maximum effort to simplify the control of the programs and make them accessible to virtually all users. Time will tell if it was a lucky move. Users of older versions, if they upgrade to Office 2007, will have to be patient for a few days or weeks and break their existing habits. The menu bar and toolbars have completely disappeared from application windows, leaving only a small relic called the Quick Access toolbar. Instead of menus and a toolbar, there's a large, fairly complex bar called the Tab Bar, where most functions are available with a mouse click or two. This book will attempt to introduce one of the applications of this office suite, Word 2007, to the general public. WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR The reader of this book should have at least a basic understanding of computer use - they should be able to start and shut down the computer, run programs, and use the keyboard and mouse. It doesn't hurt to be familiar with basic operations when working with documents and files. WHAT YOU'LL FIND IN THE BOOK The book is divided into thirteen chapters, in which the reader will gradually get acquainted with the basic operation of Word 2007, its working environment and some important functions. The first chapter is an introduction. Here you will find an overview of basic concepts, a brief introduction to installing Word, getting started, basic setup, and learning how to navigate the screen. The second chapter is devoted to a detailed introduction to the Word 2007 working environment, with an emphasis on the new graphical and control elements that distinguish this program from its predecessors. The third chapter is intended for the least experienced users, as it is devoted to operations with documents and files, focusing on the correct storage of the document. You will read about saving formats, how to find a saved file, and you will find references to importing and exporting data. The fourth chapter is entirely devoted to basic text editor operations, with an emphasis on typing. Last but not least, you can read about automatic corrections and how to mark text selected for special operations. At the end of the chapter, you'll read about copying and moving single words or entire blocks of text, and you'll learn how to search through a document. In Chapter 5, you'll learn the essentials about direct document formatting. Gradually you will learn how to format the page as a whole, font and paragraphs. Attention is also paid to indentation and paragraph numbering, as well as text borders and shading. Indirect formatting, working with styles, is the focus of Chapter 6. In terms of working with Word, this chapter is the most important, because styles, if used correctly, can make editing a document very fast and give very good results. The styles chapter is directly followed by chapter seven, in which you will learn how to work with document headings and document outlines. You'll learn a lot about how to partition a document in Chapter 8. Sections are important for sorting text into multiple columns and for creating different headers and footers for different parts of the document. Images and other graphic objects are now an integral part of documents. Chapter 9 is devoted to how to work with them. You will gradually get acquainted with inserting and formatting images, clipart, so-called. shapes, WordArt and text fields. The tenth chapter teaches the reader how to insert the so-called. references, which here means the table of contents, index, captions and list of figures, and explanatory notes and footnotes. The eleventh chapter is devoted to sorting the document into columns, i.e. working with tabs, and inserting and formatting tables. This is directly followed by the description of working with tables. We will show how to insert a table into a document, how to fill it with data, how to edit and format the table. In Chapter 12 you will find a rather brief mention of revisions. You will learn how to set up the language to successfully check for typos and grammar. Several pages are devoted to the thesaurus, synonym dictionary, translation options between two languages, word splitting and especially change tracking, where you can evaluate the changes you have made after the fact. The final, thirteenth chapter, the climax of the book, shows you how to convert the entire formatted document to paper. This doesn't mean that this chapter should be read last, because you can practically print your first attempts.
