Women at the head of state

Women who rewrote history and inspired generations.
From the legendary Cleopatra to the indomitable " Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher to the persistent Angela Merkel. Women who had one thing in common: They stood at the head of state in times when politics was the prerogative of men, and thus influenced the development of their countries for decades, if not centuries, to come.
How did they manage to gain power and maintain it in a society where women often faced prejudice and inequality? How did they handle political and social crises that would break even the most experienced leaders, and how did they manage to change the future?
The book Women at the Head of State brings fascinating portraits of twenty of the most powerful female politicians, from Cleopatra, through the mother of compulsory schooling, Maria Theresa, to the British Queen Elizabeth II.
The stories of the most important women in our history and today destroy myths and stereotypes and prove that the glass ceiling is not insurmountable because someone has already broken through it.
About the author:
Anne Fulda is a French journalist working mainly for the newspaper Le Figaro, but also on radio and television. She has written several biographical books and directed a number of documentaries for television. He specializes in French politics. In addition to books focused on Jacques Chirac and Emmanuel Macron, she dedicated two books to prominent women. Portraits de femmes (Portraits of Women) dealt mainly with prominent French women who are or were active in the fields of business, politics or culture, or were the partners or daughters of prominent Frenchmen of the present day.
The book Women at the Head of State is more narrowly focused on the leadership position of a particular woman in a given state, but at the same time more broadly conceived both geographically and temporally. The individual portraits are the work of various authors; Anne Fulda is the editor, author of the foreword, and also the author of the chapter dedicated to the British Queen Elizabeth II.
