. with the soul of a beadle

A month in the life (end of August - end of September 2017) of the author's alter ego - an unemployed writer, introvert, inclined to bohemianism and solitude, suffering from depression and despising consumerism. He lives in a miserable sublet, takes any kind of casual job, lives as an outlaw on the fringes of the society he hates and struggles with existential problems, "thanks" to which he often finds himself in tragicomic, desperately banal and crazy life situations. Despite his failing health, he tries to solve his problems with drugs, pills, litres of alcohol and random love affairs. But his fondest escape from reality is writing, where he tries to sort out his fragmented thoughts and find the meaning of life and, above all, of himself.

. with the soul of a beadle is the debut novel of the young Olomouc writer Jaroslav Irovský. In style and content, it follows the author's previous collections of decadent short stories, Stories of a Fucker and O(bychény) ŽIVOT, written without pretensions and censorship, with an unpretentious vocabulary, underground emotional directness and a large dose of sincerity, self-irony and humorous exaggeration, referring to the best traditions of the American Beat generation and authors such as John Fante or Charles Bukowski.
