With the old guard: On Peleliu and Okinawa

E. B. Sledge enlisted as a young man in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific from 1943–46, where he fought in two bloody battles of the Pacific theatre: Peleliu and Okinawa. His memoir is a remarkable personal record of the events of the Second World War from the perspective of an ordinary soldier. E. B. Sledge's book was one of the sources for the documentary series The Pacific.
