With giraffes to the west

Woodrow Wilson Nickel is one hundred and five years old and feels his life is drawing to a close. When he learns from the television one day that giraffes are slowly dying out, he recalls an unforgettable experience that he cannot keep to himself:
The year was 1938. The Great Depression was ending, Hitler was threatening Europe, and weary Americans were longing for a miracle. They found it in two giraffes who had survived a hurricane while sailing across the Atlantic.
