With a wolf's head in the coat of arms

It is a frosty night, January 1421, and a collapsed and badly wounded rider arrives at the gate of Drkolná, a small fortress in the foothills of Šumava. Thus begins a plot loosely connected to the previous novels The Fourth King's Dog and Time of the Wolves. Hynek Tas from Bor loses the love of his wife Markéta again. But this loss is not the only one. He loses his castle Vlkov, the water fortress Blatec, his son and somewhere in the woods his she-wolf Grey disappears. But Tas is not one of those who would give up without a fight. Even though he is often on his knees, his head remains upright. He keeps his horse Flavius, makes a new friend, but also the secret love of the wife of one of the German refugees, and gets hired as a protector of the merchant caravans. All this takes place at the time of the most dramatic ferment in the kingdom, when Oldřich of Rožmberk besieges Tabor and Sigismund of Luxembourg manages to put together the largest crusade of the time and when the Battle of Vitkov is about to take place. This medieval story is chilling in its rawness and at the same time reveals facts that are otherwise little mentioned in literature.
