Willows

When two friends land on a deserted island during a trip down the Danube, they encounter something that defies human comprehension. Amidst the rustling willows, the rushing river, and the whispering wind, something that was there long before them awakens – and it does not wish to be disturbed.

Algernon Blackwood's most impressive work is a disquieting meditation on a world that does not belong to humanity, where nature is not merely a backdrop but a conscious force. The creeping horror of the willows will get under your skin and stay there long after you've finished reading. It is no accident that H. P. Lovecraft declared this novella to be the best supernatural story ever written!
