Wild Women
The crow sits with the crow. And the same goes for wild women across the centuries...
Pregnant Kate decides to leave everything behind and flee her abusive partner in London for a house in the Lake District of remote Cumbria, inherited from her great-aunt, unaware that the dilapidated country house has been hiding a surprising secret since the witch hunts of the 17th century. Four hundred years ago, the local people witnessed the unjust trial of the proud beauty Altha Weyward, convicted of witchcraft and the murder of a local landowner. And what connects the two young women with Violet, a keen naturalist of only sixteen, who was rejected by her aristocratic family in the dramatic 1940s because of her rebellious and free-spirited nature? Across time, the breathtaking stories of a trio of extraordinary heroines whose irrepressibility defied the conventions of the time and the backward ideas of their male counterparts are woven together.
The acclaimed first novel by the British-Australian author celebrated a double victory in the Goodreads Choice Awards 2023: not only among debut novels, but also in the category of historical fiction. It boldly and originally depicts the ongoing oppression of unruly women.
