White dog
The final case for the unorthodox private investigator Jack Irish...
When well-known Melbourne developer Mickey Franklin is shot with his own gun, suspicion immediately falls on his girlfriend, the sculptor Sarah Longmore. The motive for murder? Mickey was allegedly cheating on her with her younger sister, Sophie. But Sarah's lawyer, Drew Greer, is convinced of her innocence and turns to his former colleague Jack Irish to investigate the case.
Jack has known for a long time that trouble has a way of finding him, and he soon discovers that this job will be no different. The circumstances of Mickey's death are far from as clear-cut as the police make them out to be, and going against the official investigation means tangling with powerful people on both sides of the law. The most sensible thing would be to call it all off. But that would mean Jack couldn't have started falling for the beautiful artist himself…
He has almost lost his life in several similar affairs in the past. Will he make it out in one piece this time, or has the 'luck of the Irish' finally run out?
The books featuring Jack Irish have been adapted into a brilliant television series starring Guy Pearce.
Peter Temple
One of today's most respected Australian detective story authors, he was born in South Africa in 1946. In 1982, he moved to Melbourne, where he worked mainly as a journalist and teacher. However, he became famous somewhat later for his novels, particularly four crime thrillers featuring the unconventional private investigator Jack Irish (Bad Debts, Black Tide, Dead Point, and White Dog). Czech readers are also familiar with the detective story The Broken Shore (for which Temple was the first Australian to receive the prestigious British Gold Dagger award) and its stand-alone sequel, Truth. The author's books have been translated into more than twenty languages, have won numerous other awards, and the Jack Irish series has been adapted for film and television, starring Guy Pearce. Peter Temple lived with his wife, Anita, and son, Nicholas, in Ballarat, Australia, until his untimely death in 2018.
