Two sisters, an ocean of lies and a search for the truth
Kit and Jossie were inseparable sisters. Growing up in sunny California, their playground was the ocean. But it's been 15 years since Josie Bianci died on a train during a terrorist attack. At least that's what her sister, now an emergency room doctor in Santa Cruz, thinks. But it only takes a few seconds of the evening news to turn Kit's life completely upside down. Footage from the Auckland fire captures a woman who resembles the allegedly dead Josie in every detail, including the scar in her eyebrow. There can be no doubt. Kit is overwhelmed by a wave of emotions - grief, feelings of loss and anger. But it also offers her a chance to finally come to terms with her past - if she can find her long-lost sister.
She flies to New Zealand to search for Josie, with whom she and she were always so close until one summer something went wrong. Kit is forced to confront her displaced past and slowly work her way through the web of forgetfulness and lies that have hidden memories of her childhood and one dramatic summer on a sunny California beach. And also the trauma that has haunted her and Josie all their lives.
If the sisters are to be reunited and accepted, they must bring to light deeply buried secrets and face the crushing truth that has divided them for far too long. Even at the cost of all the security they have built up since then.
