What does it mean to be spiritual?

What do we understand by the term “spiritual experience” within the Christian tradition today? What criterion distinguishes it from other forms of human experience? And is every experience in the field of spirituality truly “spiritual”? This collective monograph explores the phenomenon of Christian spiritual experience within a theological framework, connecting historical probes with the challenges presented by contemporary spiritual theology. The introductory study and the following eight chapters attempt to create a dialogue not only between the spiritual experience of the Christian East and West, but also between theological tradition and the thinking of the contemporary (post)secular world.
