Wars with waste

Landfills around the world are overflowing and disputes over how to dispose of millions of tonnes of waste are leading to wars that few people know about. Some of them are border skirmishes, while in others the garbage is moved thousands of kilometres. Investigative journalist Alexander Clapp spent two years travelling across five continents, to find out that most discarded items live a secret second life - they get transported, they sell, resold and smuggled from one country to another, often with devastating consequences for the world's poorest nations. War on Waste is a riveting exposition of how and why a massive, multi-billion-dollar global economy has been born out of our garbage over the past forty years.
