Volman Villa - a jewel of Czech interwar architecture
Volman's villa is a phenomenal example of Czech interwar architecture and a testament to the social ambition of the first Czechoslovak republic supported by its economic strength. The book "Volman's Villa - A Jewel of Czech Interwar Architecture" is as much a narrative monograph presenting its architecture as it is a probe into Czech modern history. It is a testimony to the changes in our society after 1948 and a testament to more than fifteen years of effort associated with the restoration and reconstruction of the villa. < br> < br> In addition to a detailed description of the building, there are still unpublished period plans and photographs accompanied by multi-layered historical commentaries and explanations of the techniques used in the reconstruction of the building. Part of the texts is dedicated to the authors of the villa, the time of its foundation and the work of the important Czech entrepreneur Josef Volman, of the founder of the plant, which gave birth to the legendary Czech brand of machine tools and the current face of the town of Čelákovice, and the fate of his family, that were as tumultuous as the fate of the house itself. All of this is intertwined with the reflections of historians and architects on the composition of the house, its aesthetics, atmosphere, expression and order, which are a message for our time. < br> < br> Published in cooperation with the National Technical Museum< br> < br>
