Vascular inputs

Vascular access refers to the insertion of catheters or cannulas into the venous or arterial bloodstream, which enables a range of important diagnostic examinations and is necessary for administering medication and nutrition in cases of serious illness. On the other hand, the insertion of vascular access can be complicated if it is not correctly indicated, inserted, and used.
The field of vascular access is undergoing significant changes. We are encountering new types of vascular access, and new methodologies that significantly reduce the risk of complications are being used. Over the past two decades, a great deal of new information has been gradually acquired based on a number of studies.
Venous access is traditionally divided into peripheral and central, and also into short-term, medium-term, and long-term. In the last decade, many new findings have emerged in both peripheral and central access, fundamentally changing our options for their optimal use. The division into short-term, medium-term, and long-term venous access is now somewhat outdated. In addition to venous access, access to the arterial bloodstream is often necessary in intensive care. In this area too, it is necessary to adopt new algorithms, which will be presented in the book.
In addition to defining the individual types of vascular access, the book pays attention to their current indications. The publication also includes a detailed introduction to the current methods of inserting various venous access devices, including internationally valid recommendations. It does not omit the latest findings in the care and use of venous access and the issue of vascular access in children.
The need to establish vascular access is increasing as our population ages. The number of doctors is limited, and there is a growing need for further specialisation in all medical fields. In our country, this also leads to the necessity of transferring certain competencies in the area of vascular access to non-medical staff.
For these reasons, the book is intended for both doctors and non-medical staff who wish to focus on the field of vascular access and continuously incorporate new information into their work.
