When the body of a young student is found in the driveway of a Denton home with a photo pinned to his collar, Detective Josie Quinn is the first on the scene. The house belongs to Gretchen Palmer, a dedicated member of Josie's team who has disappeared.

As she digs into Gretchen's life, which is shrouded in mystery and white spaces, Josie uncovers a connection between a boy, a photograph and a devastating case from Gretchen's past. But just when Josie thinks she's beginning to untangle the tangled threads of the case, another crime happens in town - this time the brutal murder of a young couple.
