Triathlon with dragons
Let yourself be inspired by the gripping story of triathlete Tomáš Slavata, originally a spray-painter and street kid, who was not broken even by his own family's disorderly circumstances.
He himself grew up in a fatherless family with an alcoholic mother, where violence was not lacking. One day this little, mocking and stammering Thomas was catching a tram and overtook it. The passengers applauded him – and that's when something broke inside him. All it took was a little appreciation from his surroundings and he started running, he got motivated to achieve something.
When Tomáš's older sister became pregnant at the age of fifteen (and a year later for the second time), her sons ended up in an orphanage. Thomas decided to take custody of them. He was 21 years old. Today she has two other boys from the orphanage in her care.
By the time he was fully engaged with his nephews and commuting to work, he had developed into a quality athlete (Xterra off-road triathlon). Tomas was saved by sport. He now invests his time in children who grow up in orphanages or in socially weak circumstances, trying to give them motivation and hope for life. Its aim is to find children who do not know how to ask for help or are ashamed.
It organises up to 50 events a year for children from homes, including the so-called "Children's Day". Triathlon Tour – which is a series of triathlon races that have been held throughout the Czech Republic since 2011 for children between the ages of 7 and 18. This project involves both children from orphanages and children from ordinary families and brings them together in a natural way.
“ It is the story of a brave and strong knight. And also a little stuttering and shy.
He's 38, but he's still fighting dragons. With dragons out there and dragons in your head. He fights for justice, for love, for his children, but also for himself. He is strengthened by applause, weakened by nightmare attacks. Sometimes they are echoes of a childhood spent in a home infested with alcohol, violence and instability, sometimes they are reverberations of the losses and helplessness of recent years. He had fallen off his horse so many times, but he got up each time. And he's still running.
He often wins, but he doesn't win. The dragons' heads are growing back. “
