Transit
In the second part of the novel trilogy, The Outline, autobiographical narrator Faye finds herself in London, where she renovates an abandoned apartment, negotiates with spiteful neighbors, teaches creative writing, and, just like in the first part, talks to various characters. A hairdresser tells her about living with his teenage nephew, a bricklayer tells her about the glass house he built at home in Poland, and a student about raising Persian greyhounds. A lot is revealed about Faye, although information about her reaches us mostly through gaps in other people' s stories. The innovative and formally polished narrative style that British-Canadian writer Rachel Cusk created in the Outline trilogy does not lose its impact in the second part, entitled Transit.
