Timber buildings

Josef Kolb's publication Timber Buildings is a translation of the 3rd updated edition in Switzerland/Germany with the German title Holzbau mit System. The book shows the current and prospective state of the art, which is successfully used in Switzerland, Germany and Austria - the leading European countries in modern timber construction - and in some respects ahead of its time. The interrelationships between design and construction are explained, from simple family houses to multi-storey large buildings, among others. based on more than 900 images and custom design drawings. The focus is mainly on frame, skeleton and solid timber buildings, including ceilings, partition walls and the building envelope. In the translation of this new edition, characteristics for systems, intermediate layers and cladding of external walls, pitched roofs and mezzanine ceilings have been added. New information is provided on nanotechnology (technology of very small parts), which can be used to protect the material against moisture, light and microorganisms.
